Elissa Steamer

Video Posted on

This Vice documentary, Epicly Later’d, features the career of Elissa Steamer and her skating with Toy Machine. Elissa was the first female to ever make such an impression on skateboarding, she absolutely kills it. Her style remains unique to this day and this 4 part documentary follows her career plateau.

Vice puts out some great videos in general, definitely check their site out!

This post is one part of an interesting three-way coincidence. 1) During a phone conversation a week ago, my daughter (who lives in Florida) told me she wanted to get a skateboard. I thought that was cool, because I never see female boarders. (I also worried about her, because Florida drivers seem to enjoy running over pedestrians, or trying to anyway. 2) I teach at Champlain College, and there are a couple of steep streets near the campus where boarders congregate and goof off after school. On Friday, for the first time ever, I saw a girl boarding (not with the group, just on her own), and she really turned their heads! 3) Your post, above. It must be the stars . . . . .

thats awesome daniel! I can see how a father could be concerned, you definitely must be wary of traffic while skating in the streets. I like to go at night if i street skate, to avoid traffic, other than that, sticking to the skateparks! female skateboarders are few and far between, and I can say I am always excited to meet a fellow female skater! I hope your daughter goes for it and enjoys herself!
